Beautiful property and surrounding countryside, a warm welcome for peaceful break.

My husband and I spent a wonderful Christmas at The Shooting Folly. It was utterly perfect, they really have thought of everything. The quality of everything is topnotch, loved the bathrooms, kitchen is very well equipped the freezer section of fridge even had icecubes ready for the gin and tonics much appreciated! They have a fantastic range of alcohol you can opt to buy, it is not overpriced, such a great idea. We didn't need to use it as had our own but for those that forget, there is something for everyone. Of course, we both enjoyed the hot tub, so good to get in after the long walk to and from the pub on Christmas Day wonderful weather, stopped at the beautiful church on the way there and back and the wood burning stove was so cosy. They don't charge for any of the wood, most places give you a free starter pack and then you pay after that, but not The Shooting Lodge. Neither of us can fault anything. It was all quite last minute, we felt we needed to get away this year, and The Shooting Lodge couldn't have been more perfect for us. As you drive up, it all looked magical, so cute and then you are met with the underfloor heating and loveliness. There were eggs and some lovely ginger biscuits, which I scoffed as my husband doesn't like ginger bonus. The Christmas Tree lights were on, the place was warm, colourful lights around the hot tub I love fairy lights so that's a winner from the get go. Loved the bedlinen, the styling, the chocolate on the towels little touches are always appreciated. We both said we could easily live here permanently. I'll be honest and say that we would never have come across this place as up until July 2024, we had our beautiful dog but sadly, she died and that is the only reason we found this place as it doesn't accept dogs understandably as it is a dairy farm. So thank you to the family, you've created something very special and we both felt it was a privilege to stay there and hopefully we'll manage to come back before we get another furry family member.
Pretty little place away from hustle and bustle. Exactly what we were looking for, a quiet relaxing break with lovely walks straight from the doorstep... just perfect.
Just perfect. ...loved everything about this cottage. Sensitive and tasteful restoration of a historic building but with modern touches lovely shower room, underfloor heating was a real bonus and the hot tub fantastic for the end of day winddown. The location was brilliant...so quiet with only the sound of cows and birds audible, good walks straight from the door and a feeling of being very remote but with plenty of villages and small towns to explore nearby. The weather was kind, no rain for the whole week and we even had lunch in the garden in the November sunshine......watched by the cows! Highly recommend and hope to return.
What a lovely place to get away from it all. Lots of lovely walks from the doorstep or short drive to some lovely towns and villages. Host was really helpful, facilities were great and hot tub a bonus. We will be back.
Nicola
We absolutely loved our stay here, a gorgeous property in a beautiful location! We were very comfortable, just had to watch the low ceilings upstairs. The owner was great very helpful on arrival and the treats waiting for us in the cottage were a lovely touch, and much appreciated. It was just the get away we needed, thank you very much.
The Folly is a wonderful mix of cosy and luxury, a romantic snug but with everything you could possibly need for a self catering holiday. The setting is fantastic and the cottage oozes history and charm.
Lovely little lodge. Clean, well equipped. Loved the hottub. Just a note that this place is very very rural. Roads are unmade in places. And difficult if you meet another vehicle coming in opposite direction , with little passing places ! But as its this rural its very quiet.
Sandra
Fabulous place to stay. The Folly is truly marvellous and so beautifully equipped. Loved the hot tub and great to have towels provided for it. The cows added plenty of entertainment and other wildlife was in abundance. Lovely walking in the area with a couple of pubs offering excellent food enroute to the canal. A very memorable break. All dealings with Sykes were very easy and Stephen was a very thoughtful owner.
Everything you could possibly need in a beautiful setting. This property exceeded our expectations.
Oliver
Beautiful setting and accommodation, would recommend highly 1010.
A fabulous gem & a real credit to Stephen & Tracey Beautiful surroundings & friendly, helpful owners We will return! Many thanks
Stephen
Very relaxing stay. The hot tub was an added bonus for relaxing at the end of the day.
We enjoyed our stay and Tracy and Steve did everything to make our stay perfect
Rebecca
Well what an absolutely amazing place, totally exceeded our expectations. Stayed at this little gem for 5 nights & everything about it was just perfect it was faultless. Thanks to Stephen & Tracey for allowing us to share a little piece of heaven we will now consider this to be our special place & cant wait to return. Best Wishes Dave & Rebecca
Wow what an amazing property and location to escape to. We had an amazing time in the perfect location, will be returning for sure. The property is totally unique and Stephen was a great host.
The Shooting Folly, what a gem of a place. Peaceful and Relaxing was what we were looking for and we got just that. Hot tub, mod cons and Beautiful surroundings, couldn't ask for more. Would recommend and looking forward to a revisit.
Lauren
Had a lovely stay in your beautiful folly. Don't change a thing! Faultless once again, thank you.
It was fantastic everything we wanted and everything we thought it would be. Stephen was very helpful. It was a surprise for my other half and she could not of been more pleased with it. Thank you.
Amazing! From start to finish we could not have been happier. So peaceful and the scenery was spectacular. Stargazing in the hot tub and breakfast looking out onto the fields. The little touches with fresh eggs on arrival and the log fire already lit added that true sense of being looked after. We will definitely be booking again and recommending to friends and family. Anyone looking for the perfect getaway for 2, this is the place to go.
Truly exceptional property, we described it to friends today as 5 star plus, plus. Everything from the basics like loo rolls and dish clothes, little extras like chocs on the bed and fresh eggs & local biscuits was done with care, quality, and attention to detail. The Christmas tree and decorations was a particularly lovely welcome with the fire going and underfloor heating on when we arrived after a long drive through ice and snow made it even more welcoming and special. The finish on the property was excellent, bed was extremely comfy, lovely quality bed linen and ooooh the hot tub was heavenly!! It is obvious the renovation of the Shooting Folly was a real labour of love. The kitchen is very well equipped and laid out in such a way that cooking was as intuitive as if we were at home. Our hosts were warm and welcoming, the dairy cows were charming neighbours. The rural location enabled us to really get away from it all and properly unwind, relax and recharge. It was lovely to have a tour of the farm too, thank you. The Shooting Folly is conveniently located for Ironbridge and Shrewsbury, we were also delighted to explore the local towns and villages. We are likely to return in the very near future and try the hot tub when there isnt frost or snow we cant wait!
Extremely peaceful cozy cottage in beautiful surroundings. Completely rested the hot tub was amazing
Sharon
It was fantastic a lovely little folly in the middle of nowhere. Peace and quiet plenty of wild life only the cows to talk too fantastic
We had a great, chilled time thats why we keep coming back. Fantastic escape from the rat race thank you.
Fantastic Place to chill out & reset in the quietest of locations. Loved every minute & really didnt want to leave. So much attention to detail & thought has gone into designing the folly. Having Breakfast with the door open so we can talk with the cows, every window giving fantastic views. Oh & the hot tub Relaxing in the bubbles next to the herd as the sun goes down. perfection!
Jeffrey
Wonderful property . Relaxing and peaceful ! Granddaughter really enjoyed watching the cows !
Absolutely beautiful little cottage, so peaceful and relaxing. The photos do not do it justice. We loved watching the cows from the hot tub. Stephen the ownerfarmer was so friendly and helpful and suggested some fantastic places to eat nearby. If you want somewhere where you can completely switch off, relax and recharge your batteries in the most beautiful place then we can think of nowhere better!
We loved the setting and the accommodation. The eggs, milk, biscuits and chocolates were a lovely touch. Also the supply of washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets long with soaps etc. These all added to the convenience of the rental. Being able to relax in the hot tub after a day out was an added bonus. Thank you for everything
Absolutely stunning property and setting. Everything you needed for a peaceful break, thank you.
Tristen
Very sweet and unique place obvious that a lot of love went into restoring it. Just the escape we were looking for.
Wow! What a find! The shooting folly is absolutely stunning and perfect for a relaxing stay away. The property is well thought out and has been furnished to a high standard. It was super clean on arrival and the fresh milk and eggs were greatly appreciated. It's really private so perfect for getting away from it all. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to go back.
Carolyn
Just perfect
Sharon
Our second visit to The Shooting Folly and once again, it didn't disappoint. Everything as we remembered. The peace, quiet and hot tub were great for relaxing. A great base for visiting Ironbridge, Trentham and Hawkstone Park Follies. I'm sure we will be visiting again. Thanks for the eggs, milk and biscuits they were really good.
Stephanie
What a wonderful cozy cottage with the added luxury of the hot tub. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again. It was warm, cozy and had everything we needed, mobile reception was a bit sketchy but who cares. It was really clean and the bed was really comfortable... just lovely!
We had a lovely relaxing long weekend at the Folly. Would definitely recommend it to friends. The honesty bar is a great idea. Rebuilding the Folly must have been a labour of love and it shows in the finished product. It was a shame that the poor weather kept the cows inside up at the farm.
Lovely cottage that has been tastefully restored with modern comforts. Little extras very much appreciated especially the fresh egg and farm fresh milk
Andrew
We had a wonderful stay in The Shooting Folly. The cottage is very comfortable and full of character and the hot tub was very welcome after a hike. Cheswardine is an easy 2 mile walk across the fields and the Red Lion pub is very welcoming. All in all a lovely place to explore North Shropshire.
The Shooting Folly is a fantastic cottage for a couple looking for peace and quiet in an unspoiled part of the country. Everything is provided, including towels for use with the hot tub and even an honesty bar. The cottage is warm and spotlessly clean. There are numerous walks in the area in woodland, farmland and by the canal a couple of local pubs and its only a short drive to small towns like Newport and Market Drayton. We thoroughly recommend it.
Lovely property suitable for two people wanting a quiet retreat in the Shropshire countryside. The cottage had everything needed including an honesty bar! The fresh milk and eggs were very welcome thank you Stephen. We hope to come again later in the year.
